He was in the Royal Canadian Air Force (special U.S. Unit). Crashed Nov 4, 1941 at High River, Alberta, Canada. Seriously injured but went on to successfully manage a large farm growing grains and operating a dairy herd. His youngest son, Russell died in a farm accident. His brothers Randall and Sydney made such heroic efforts to save him that the Canadian government wanted to honor them, but the brothers declined because they did not want the publicity. His daughter Marjorie Ann is Ottawa Bureau Chief for the Vancouver Sun and the only female political daily columnist in Canada. She also conducts a weekly political radio show for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.Roger Owen Smith (1961)
